I've met a lot of great people online through Twitter and blogging. Some of my current friends I met through the internet. I think the unhealthy thing is never actually meeting anybody. <br /><br />The issue isn't the tools - it's the attitude. <br /><br />Gregarious nerds, like myself, love these tools because it actually allows us to feel more intimately connected to our friends' lives and us allows us to meet people with rare interests that you'd be hard pressed to find elsewhere. <br /><br />If you're a hermit though, you might not have the skills online or offline to better yourself. It seems that the tools just better express your true being. <br /><br />I know you think Twitter et al. are just superficious, but you'd be surpised how much people feel connected. Just because you don't, doesn't mean other don't. Ask Klabnik about his online/offline meeting of friends - it's less IRL.
